Hello, my name is Mrs. Carbone, I am the school nurse at Hempstead Elementary. At Hempstead Elementary we strive to provide a healthy learning environment for your children. Please read below how you can play a key role in maintaining a healthy learning environment for your children.

At home encourage healthy habits by...

Eating a healthy diet, getting a good nights sleep, encouraging good hygiene, appropriate dress and frequent hand washing.

Children should stay home from school if they have any of the following symptoms:

Fever of 99.9 or above: Children must be without fever and off medication for at least 24 hours before they may return to school.

Vomiting/diarrhea: If your child has vomited or had diarrhea, they should remain home for at least 24 hours to avoid spreading illness

Sore throat: If your child has a sore throat, and you suspect they could have strep throat, or if you have had them tested for strep throat at their doctor’s, do not send them to school until you have negative results. If they have strep throat, they must have been on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.

Cough: Persistent coughing that may be disruptive to the class.

Cold or runny nose: If nasal discharge is not clear or excessive they should remain home.

Please feel free to contact me at 577-6273 if you have any questions or there is any changes in your child's health.
