September 6, 2011
Dear Parents/Guardians and Families,
Our School Report Card has been received and, as a result of the scores submitted during the 2010-2011 school year, Lime Kiln has been cited by the NYSED as being a School In Need of Improvement. This means that if we do not demonstrate improvement for two consecutive years, NYSED has the right to step in and take over.
Our identified areas of need are:
v
English Language Arts
v
Mathematics
Here are the initiatives that I plan to embark on along with the staff to improve student achievement:
v
Strong emphasis on student engagement
v
Provide after-school and tutoring academies for students who need additional academic support
v
Increasing professional development for faculty and staff
v
Enlisting your help and the help of community based organizations
As a result of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, if your child receives free or reduced lunch, your child is eligible for Supplemental Education Services (SES) in mathematics and literacy. You will receive a packet of information that explains how SES works and what you, as a parent or guardian must do to make sure your child gets these services.
As you are well aware, we have a diverse population and plan for each of our students to meet and exceed New York State Standards. I will be enlisting your help from time to time to monitor your children's success, and I am confident that you will support our endeavors. Included on our website are a number of supports that will increase student performance.
With your help, all of our students will be prepared to exceed standards by the end of the school year.
Sincerely,
Lori J. Grant
Principal
