Website Background 101


Project & Enabling Objectives

After viewing a variety of web page formats and templates students will demonstrate their ability to create a series of web site backgrounds utilizing Adobe Illustrator. After viewing a variety of color harmony samples students will use their understanding of color harmony to create a series of simple website backgrounds that depict different color harmonies.


Learning Standards

Art Standard 1: Creating, Performing, and Participating in the Arts. Students will actively engage in the processes that constitute creation in the arts and participate in various roles in the arts.


 MST Standard 5: Technology Students will apply technological knowledge and skills to design, construct, use, and evaluate products and systems to satisfy human and environmental needs.

Full screen projection and demonstration of applications used in website development, classroom websites depicting tutorials aiding in project development.



  Phase One, Presentation; Clarify Aim; Review prior knowledge of Illustrator tools and Google Accounts. Review file formats and Optimizing images.

  Phase Two, Visuals and Demonstration; Show students a sample of the work to be completed, going over the Google Site and its various features. Demonstrate the navigation of Google Site, and the classroom site tutorials. Discuss the basic principles of graphic design and the basic components of a web site.

  Phase Four, Monitor progress and Provide feedback, address common issues and problems.

  Phase Five, Outcome and Discussion; View various student site and review prior knowledge of image optimization and how these skills apply to the project.
